Birch Bay String Teachers’ Workshop
The W-ASTA Birch Bay String Teachers’ Workshop is presented annually in Ferndale, Washington: a pleasant small town located fifteen minutes north of Bellingham, fifteen minutes from the beach at Birch Bay, and fifteen minutes from the Canadian border. Now in its 65th year, the workshop is designed specifically for school string orchestra teachers of all levels, grades 4-12. Participants range from first-year teachers to seasoned veteran teachers to retired teachers, many returning year-after-year. It is a supportive and inclusive community honoring the best practices in school string teaching. The goal of the workshop is to offer continuous, up-to-date, relevant in-service for teachers who are committed to self-improvement. The relaxed yet rigorous week allows teachers to interact with others who understand the challenges and rewards of the school orchestra setting.
Location: Ferndale, Washington
This year's workshop will be held from July 29 to August 2, 2024. For further information you may contact workshop director Phil Baldwin at: pbaldwin@whitworth.eduWe hope to see you here! Click here to join the Facebook group page

2024 Guest Clinician:Debbie Lyle
Director, Bornoff Foundation for the Advancement of String Education Charlottesville, Virginia
Debra Lyle, featured guest clinician, is the foremost exponent of the pedagogy and vision of her mentor, Dr. George Bornoff. Her close relationship to Dr. Bornoff, both as a student and as a devoted colleague and friend, made her well-suited to further his commitment to providing the best opportunities for teachers through training.
Debbie’s tireless efforts as a board member and as executive director of the Bornoff Foundation for the Advancement of String Education (FASE) have served to “spread the word” and to solidly establish the Bornoff Approach within the consciousness of the string teaching world.
A graduate of the Hartt School of Music, she is a highly successful orchestra teacher/director and an accomplished studio teacher. Debbie is an internationally known clinician and expert in string pedagogy.
We are thrilled to have her with us this summer at Birch Bay! -
